3 Ways To Style A Gingham Shirt With Interior Designer Melissa Marshall

When it comes to getting dressed in the morning, we’re all about wardrobe multitaskers...

You know – the kind of pieces that work with everything in your closet. So this summer, we’ve collaborated with Irving & Powell on a classic navy and white gingham shirt. Wear it with jeans, skirts, shorts – you can even style it with a tutu (don’t believe us – just scroll down). To celebrate the launch, we styled Melissa Marshall, one of our favourite GRACE mamas, in our new Irving & Powell X GRACE gingham shirt. The Sydney-based mother of two and interior designer also shares her summer style tips with us.

How would you describe your summer style?

Tailored and simple. For daytime, it’s usually blue denim and a white linen or cotton top, which varies from denim shorts or skirt with a white shirt or shirt dress. I usually have navy or coral shoes on.

Three things on your summer shopping list?

Always interiors oriented: Santa Maria Novella’s terracotta Pomegranate diffuser; Den Holm planter; Miu Miu sunglasses.

Favourite way to style a shirt?

When at the beach or pool, oversized and worn over a bikini with slides. Then usually tied in a knot with high waisted jeans or a skirt for out and about.

What’s a typical look for you when you’re with your kids?

Relaxed. A shirt with jeans or shorts or a cotton dress with sneakers.

What’s your summer tote of choice?

Goyard tote in yellow.

Where will you be getting a new pair of summer sandals from?

Mara & Mine Annika raffia slides.

You’re off on a summer holiday, what do you pack?

Less is best… especially if I have my daughters with me:
Summer dresses.
Lucy Folk robe.
Marysia swimwear.
Cotton and linen shirts.
Notebooks and travel diaries.
Camera
Sunglasses
Too many books.
Current Architectural Digest.
La Mer eye cream

Three people we should follow on Instagram for interior inspiration?

That a difficult one, I have SO many. For now, I will say: @the_vault_sydney, @claes_juhlin, @alyssakapitointeriors.
