Behind the brand:
Former lawyer Eva Karayiannis founded Caramel Baby & Child from her kitchen way back in 1999. She was motivated to shake-up the world of children’s fashion after becoming fed up with the choice she was faced with – mass-produced kidswear and expensive, glittery outfits which would fall apart after a couple of parties. After selling handmade Peruvian knitwear and UK artisan clothing she then began designing the outfits herself. These have a nod to vintage fashion but with a modern twist. Happily her outfits are also beautiful and practical. She describes them a cross between “the formality of Europe and the laid-backness of England.” Eva has moved from her kitchen to a shop in London’s Bompton Road and her designs can also be bought online.
Why we love it:
Caramel Baby & Child isn’t restricted by colour and they revel in layering and varied textures. They place a lot of importance on attention to detail, making designs feel extra special thanks to a beautifully scalloped collar or an exquisitely-finished cuff. Her collections have been described as “whimsical” but Eva insists they are made “for adventure.” Favourite sellers in her current collection include the lovely Kideri dress (available in both blue and mocha candy stripe) as well as the Horsford shirt for boys.
