Behind the brand:
Swede Kristin Nystrom, a former graphic designer now living in Singapore founded Gardner and the Gang back in 2012 after having her daughter. Her first characters were the Love Skull and his friend Helmut (a helmet-wearing Flamingo). All garments in her collections are fashioned from super-soft organic cotton. The art is hand drawn and original then printed onto screens before being transferred onto the jumpers, trousers, and dresses designed for tots up to eight year olds. Nystron’s designs are inspired by her many travels over the years, as well as her own life experiences.
Why we love it…
It’s clothing with a lesson. Nystrom’s aim with her collections has been to ‘normalise’ different cultures and introduce children to all types of animals. In fact, she says the stories behind each collection have an ethos of kindness, open-mindedness and no judgement. Her fun animal characters all have human traits e.g. the Wayne the uber-cool shark and gym junkie lion Leo – which appeals to both children and adults. Celebs who love the brand include Victoria Beckham (Harper has been spotted wearing Happy Skull wellingtons). Nystrom’s most recent collection is a tribute to the Tropics and feature some fab shark sweatshirts and polar bear leggings.
