The Summer Style Essentials Loved By Our Editor Georgie Abay

Summer is just around the corner and I’m sure you’ve already started rethinking your wardrobe (how happy do you feel putting away those bulky coats and woolly knits?). I’ve already started planning my summer wardrobe and a recent trip to Byron Bay made me hurry up...

What’s in it? Lots and lots of denim (if there’s one thing you take away from this story, hopefully, it’s that every mother needs a mountain of denim in her wardrobe), a few easy-wear dresses and a stack of tees. Ready for our go-to summer fashion guide in partnership with JAG?

The Long Line Summer Dress

There comes a point in your life when you realise that maybe, just maybe, your mini-days are over. That happened shortly after I had my first child and I realised that bending over to get my baby out of the pram or pick up her toys from the ground in a mini skirt didn’t really work. They also don’t work when you’re sitting on the ground with your kid. Personally, I need a longer length these days (if great legs are your thing, ignore what I’ve just said and get them out there). In my case, I’m thankful there are so many gorgeous midi/maxi dresses out there. I love this striped halter neck style from JAG (there are side pockets and a beautiful frill hem). Just add a denim jacket in the evening and make sure you’re carrying the summer accessory of the season: a basket bag from The Paradise Catcher. I’ll also be living in the JAG Asha denim dress.

Fresh Floral Prints

Ok, so we’ve already established that maxi dresses are a must for me (see my ramblings above). And so is something floral. And something red. This dress – the Nomad Wrap Maxi from JAG – ticks all the boxes and you can even go swimming in it. That’s not actually true. It’s not swimming attire but when you’re with your kids, you never know what you’re going to end up doing.

Tee Time

If you were to peek inside my wardrobe, you’d come across a rather large collection of T-shirts. The perfect compliment to my denim collection (these cropped JAG jeans are seriously AMAZING). I love this cold shoulder Elysia T-shirt from JAG. The shoulder detailing makes it a bit different from the standard tee and red is still one of the hottest hues of the season. So how do you avoid the tee and jeans look getting boring? Add a fun tote into the mix and some crazy kids and voila – your look is complete.

Denim Fix

Whether I’m at work or with the kids, I pretty much live in denim. Jeans, shorts, skirts, jackets, it’s without a doubt the most versatile thing in my wardrobe. So what’s on my list for summer? A new denim skirt or two (I love this JAG style), some cropped jeans (cute with espadrilles), and a denim dress (just add some slides and a basket bag – so easy).

Jersey Essentials

This is that dress that you will wear all summer long. You know what I’m talking about. That piece that you call on time and again. The comfy, cool item that you possibly need two of in case it’s in the wash? I’m a huge fan of anything navy too. Just add some chic slides (I’m obsessed with these St Agni rattan slides – the Byron Bay-based brand does the best footwear). Disclaimer: this dress will not fix the dark circles under your eyes. When in doubt, drink coffee.
