“I guess nothing can really prepare you for fatherhood, so I feel like you have a lot of surprises along the way, but nothing has surprised me more than the amount you can love someone. She lights up our day everyday,” says AFL player Lachie Weller, a new Dad to daughter Marloe...
This year, he’ll celebrate Father’s Day for the very first time. And to mark the occasion, Seed Heritage photographed Lachie with his Dad and daughter, in their new ‘Match With Dad’ collection (it’s insanely cute – check it out here). Just a warning, you might be a little clucky after you see these photos which beautifully capture the daddy-daughter love Weller has with his daughter.
Let’s meet Lachie.
Lachie wears Seed Heritage Mens Linen Shirt, $89.95. Marloe wears Seed Heritage Gingham Romper, $39.95, and Basic Rib Tee, $19.95
Have you always known you wanted to be a father?
I’ve always wanted to be a Dad! Growing up with a tight family, it always inspired me to do the same.
You have a great relationship with your own father Daryn. What sort of values has he instilled in you?
I think I speak for both my mum and dad, they’ve taught me to follow my passion and work hard at it to achieve your goals.
What kind of Dad do you want to be?
I want our kids to follow their dreams and be happy doing it – there’s so much comparing now, I want them to be themselves and I’ll be right beside them supporting them.

Living and working on the Gold Coast, is the beach and the outdoors a big priority for your family?
The ocean is a massive part of my life, but I guess I’ll have to wait and see what Marloe wants to do, but I’m a big advocate for the outdoors.
How do you and your fiancé Nicola share the load?
I like to think I’m a hands-on Dad! With footy, you have to be a bit selfish at times, but Nicola is super supportive of that. She’s an amazing mum.
Obviously, Marloe has been born in a COVID world, but what are you looking forward to once all the lockdowns lift?
I’m grateful to be on the Gold Coast which has relatively been unaffected by covid however like everyone we would love to travel again.
Footy is a family affair for you. Will you be encouraging Marloe to get involved when she’s older?
Poor girl will be dragged to the footy a bit in her early ages, but if that leads to something, of course, we will support her.
What’s your favourite thing about being a Dad?
At the moment she’s growing every day, it’s so nice to see her learn new things and experience things for the first time.
How will you celebrate your first Father’s Day this year?
Hopefully just a full day of chilling out together. The season is pretty hectic, so now that’s done, it will be nice to put the feet up and maybe breakfast in bed ha!
