Behind the brand:
Former indie filmmaker Emily McMaster bases her collection of simple classic styles and quality natural materials, on old films and the dresses she herself used to wear as a child. The US-based mother and businesswoman (she handles all areas of her small business which is online only but soon to launch further items such as shoes and socks). Mabo fabrics comprise wools, tweeds and organic cotton. It was launched five years ago after the birth of McMaster’s daughter Ruby. She started making her daughter’s clothing because she couldn’t find what she wanted at a price she could afford. All clothing is made in the USA with a focus on ‘responsible’ design and manufacture.

Why we love it:
These are classic styles that will last for years, not simply seasons. In other words, dresses that can be passed down to younger siblings or friends. The fabrics are strong and long-lasting, coping easily with daily wear and tear. Kids love the simple, unfussy styles of these garments while parents appreciate the fact the same outfit can be worn to school and a special occasion. Admirably this is a brand which doesn’t bow to fashion trends but does it’s own thing. The Mabo organic cotton drawstring leggings in charcoal, blue and natural are simply adorable. So too is the navy dot Georgie dress.
