It was eight years ago when I was dreaming up my firstborn’s nursery and I still remember it vividly. I was so excited about the little girl growing in my tummy, and creating her first room was such a special experience (and something I didn’t have time to do for my second-born)...
So we’ve edited down some of our favourite pieces for your nursery. From Babyrest’s new nursery furniture which is both modern and timeless and the perfect base to start your styling from to Stina’s Style’s heavenly rattan play gym and lots more. Here’s our ultimate nursery edit. Let’s get decorating!

When it comes to designing a nursery, as fun as décor is, the cot (followed by the dresser – ideally matching) is the main event...
It’s not only the biggest item in the nursery, it’s also the most important (other than the actual baby, that is). The cot is where your little bundle will (hopefully) sleep. It’s where endless memories will be made. Both heavenly love-filled ones and also moments where you’ll wonder if your baby or toddler will ever actually go to sleep (cue sleep deprived parent slowing creeping out of the nursery trying to make an escape and just when they think they’ve made it, the baby opens their eyes).
If you’re shopping for a cot, keep reading. You might have already heard of Babyrest – we love their prams, change mats, rocking chairs, quilts and more – but what you might not know is that they’ve just expanded into the most gorgeous range of nursery furniture.
Let’s go back a little. Babyrest is an family run Australian company which was founded in 1976, way back when an inspired mother developed a range of high-quality nursery accessories. The company is still owned and operated by the same Australian family today who, all these years later, are dedicated to one thing: providing parents with a safe and dependable sleeping environment for their newborns.
The Babyrest Nursery Furniture range has launched with two collections – Tommi & Poppy. Both collections are modern, versatile and timeless and will slip seamlessly into any nursery. With their muted tones and timeless designs, they make nursery styling effortless. The collections are made in Europe from durable laminated board, natural beech wood, and Häfele™ soft-close hardware – durable, high-quality materials and premium hardware.
So to get you inspired, here’s a peek at the Tommi Cot. The Tommi cot features 3-in-1 functionality and is suitable from newborn to toddler, including the option to convert to a toddler bed or daybed with the Junior bedrail.
One of my favourite things to do when I was getting ready for my baby to arrive was to fill my chest with baby clothes and other stuff that was so cute – booties, rattles, toys, wraps… I could go on...
While my firstborn arrived six weeks early, I did get a few days after my baby shower of organising her room. This Babyrest Tommi chest is the matching piece to the Babyrest Tommi cot. What I love about it is that it’ll be a feature in your child’s room long after they’ve grown out of the cot (it’s amazing how quickly their room changes as they get older). There’s a hint of Scandi in the design – as in, it looks super sleek, but as with everything Scandi-inspired, it’s also incredibly functional (cue handleless drawers). There are two options – Oak for a classic timber look, or you can go for effortless simplicity with White. And, with 3-full width drawers, there’s plenty of space for all of your baby’s needs (as in, shop as much as you like, and it’ll all fit).
Twenty One Fifteen mobile. Atelier Choux Replaceable Wall Stickers. Adairs Baby Marley Organic Cotton Natural & Pink Blanket, $59.99
Ok, this is the fun bit – décor! There’s so much cute stuff out there, editing it down is the hard part. But here are a few things I love. Firstly, mobiles from Twenty One Fifteen. This is a mama run business (you can read our story on founder Anna Jones here) and everything she makes is thoughtful and considered. This felt mobile is still one of my favourite things in my girls’ room.
Next, a touch of Paris (because goodness knows when I’ll actually get to show my girls the Eiffel Tower). Atelier Choux is a beautiful boutique in Paris which ships worldwide. These replaceable wall stickers are super easy to stick on and, more importantly, remove. And they’re utterly charming. Adairs has some sweet bauble baby blankets (I love a pom pom) and I also love collecting snow globes. My favourite books are the Little People Big Dreams series. Oh, and to finish, I love a basket for storing toys in.
One of the challenges of running a company like The Grace Tales is discovering exceptionally cute baby things and pushing down that urge to go again. Stina’s Style made me want another baby. But then I decided wanting one of their really gorgeous Activity Play Mats wasn’t a good enough reason to have a third baby (but seriously, could a play gym get any sweeter?).
It’s not until you become a mum that you discover the importance of a play mat – you’ll be sending a lot of time with a playmat. Stina’s Style organic and nature luxury activity play mats are soft, durable and designed to be multipurpose. The arches are removable and have nine spots to hang toys and accessories off, providing stimulating awake time for your little one. Remove the arches, put the tummy time pillow down, and turn bubs over for some developmentally important tummy time. Due to the soft padding of the mat, and built up four edges, the mat also serves as a comfortable daybed when placed on top of a carpeted area or rug.
Anyone else completely and utterly obsessed with rattan? Luckily, Stina’s Style has created the dream baby play gym. Here’s why you’ll love it (other than the fact that it looks super chic): there’s triple padding and bolsters on the sides. They know that accidents happen, so have made sure their liners are not only reversible, but machine washable. This bundle also includes some of their favourite toys and accessories with a strong focus on learning and every single bundle comes with their brand new ‘PlayTime with Linda’ Activity Card deck. There are 20 different learning activities to do with your Stina’s Style product. Adding to cart!
The sweetest cot sheets from artist Fleur Harris for Adairs – fun and enchanting, this collection brings to life the magic of children’s imagination. Need we say more? We love it all.
