Cybex founder Martin Pos has built his company into a world leader in just ten years. Here’s why discerning city-dwelling parents are pushing the brand's Priam pram…
What can I say? I’m a sucker for a great pushchair. I used to love handbags, but these days I get far more excited over a new pram. Oh how life has changed. And it’s a jungle out there. And frankly, all very confusing. There are seemingly countless brands to choose from and so many extra parts to consider. Do I really need the coffee cup holder? The answer is no – your coffee still spills everywhere. The whole process is, well, overwhelming to say the least.

Yet, picking a pram is a rite of passage into parenthood. It’s a serious decision that involves a lot of research and consideration. It’s the one piece of equipment you will use more than anything. So do you want a classic or modern look? How well does it fold up? Do you need to be a genius to work out how to set it up? What coloured hood do you go for? And who’s pushing it? I have to admit: if I see a celebrity pushing it, I want it even more.
So when I discovered Cybex’s Priam pram, it was love at first sight. It helped that it’s the go-to brand for such celebrities as Cate Blanchett, Lara Bingle, Kiera Knightly, Coco Rocha, Liv Tyler, Miroslava Duma, Gwen Stefani and more. Shall I go on? For the first-time parent after a single pram, it’s a great option. Light, uber-chic, cool, modern and most importantly very functional, it’ll take your child from birth to around four years of age. Given the brand’s celebrity following and modern aesthetic, it’s no wonder they’ve collaborated with British fashion designer Jeremy Scott twice.

Inspired by American designers Ray and Charles Eames, who created design classics that were distinctly modern by combining functionality and charm, the Cybex Priam is a homage to their life’s work and follows the motto ‘Form follows family!’. “An extremely robust and versatile pushchair, yet still possessing a form that is incomparably light and timeless,” is how the brand describes the Priam, which is available in a multitude of chic colours.

The fold factor
One of the most important things for me is the fold factor. How compact can it get? It needs to be compact or it just gets annoying. The Cybex features a one-hand fold mechanism so it’s very easy to fold the pram into a neat package, using just one hand. Unlike some other prams, the ‘Lux Seat’ folds away with the frame. For the car, it can be folded completely flat.
The 3-in-1 system will take you from baby to toddler and beyond…
The Priam features a 3-in-1 system, with one frame having three different uses: a travel system with matching carry cot or with one of the award-winning Cybex infant car seats and then later as luxurious pram, which can be either forwards or rearward-facing.
It can handle rocky terrain…
There’s a choice of wheels for every path: light wheels for smooth surfaces, all terrain wheels for bumpy roads and as a hybrid solution, trekking wheels for the city and country. The Priam also has a tiny ski attachment in place of a front wheel if you’re headed to the snow. Basically, wherever you’re going, they’ve got you covered.
It looks ultra-chic
Come on, this matters. It’s your shiny new toy and it’s probably the biggest accessory you’ll ever carry. There’s no denying that the Cybex looks super smart. It’s also a pleasure to push and feels smooth. The basket under the seat fits all your essentials and you can also purchase additional accessories such as the parasol, footmuff and changing bag. Speaking of looking chic, what advice does Cybex collaborator Scott have for new parents to keep their style as they juggle careers, relationships and parenthood? “Wipe and wear is a way for people to stay stylish with babies.” Oh, if only it was that simple!
