Join us in conversation with Sam Bloom to celebrate the launch of our first book GRACE MOTHERS - The Grace Tales

12th April 2019
10:00AM - 12:30PM

You're invited to our special Mother's Day celebration on April 12th. You'll not only see The Grace Tales founder Georgie Abay in conversation with one of Australian's most remarkable and resilient women - Sam Bloom - but will also celebrate the launch of our first book, 'GRACE MOTHERS Letters To Our Children'. A perfect gift for Mother’s Day, this beautiful book is both an intimate insight into the joys and tribulations of motherhood and a celebration of mothers and their children everywhere. Some 60 extraordinary women, from Australia and around the world, have written heartfelt letters to their children. Inspiring, occasionally surprising, often funny and frequently poignant, they capture the essence of what motherhood means for each writer. Brought to you by the founder of The Grace Tales Georgie Abay, renowned fashion and portraiture photographer Julie Adams and leading journalist Claire Brayford, GRACE MOTHERS features such luminaries as Australian designer Collette Dinnigan, US journalist, author and advocate Gretchen Carlson, fashion designer Heidi Middleton, UK financier and campaigner Dame Helena Morrissey and survivor and speaker Sam Bloom. With a foreword by Australia’s former Governor-General, the Honourable Dame Quentin Bryce, and gorgeously evocative photographs throughout, GRACE MOTHERS is a book to cherish forever.

The morning will start with mingling, light brunch and tea and coffee before we hear from Sam Bloom. Finish the morning with more mingling with our community before leaving with your bumper goodie bag.

Georgie Abay will be in conversation with the remarkable survivor and speaker Sam Bloom. It will be a morning of connection, celebration and conversation. A delicious light brunch (in the renowned Boathouse style), coffee and tea will be served, and we are also delighted that 10% of proceeds from this event will be donated to our charity partner, Every Mother Counts, whose mission is to make pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother, everywhere.

Sam Bloom

The blink of an eye, a heartbeat, a split second in time. That’s all it took for Sam Bloom’s life to change forever. Sam had everything she had always dreamed of. She’d travelled extensively, fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a nurse and was a happily married mother of three young boys. She spent her time raising her family on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, and ran, swam, biked and surfed every chance she had. Life was bliss. Without warning, the dream turned into a nightmare. On a 2013 family holiday in Thailand, Sam leant against a rotten balcony railing falling through it and crashing 6 metres onto the concrete below. She was lucky to be alive and had suffered devastating injuries, including severe damage to her spinal cord that left her completely paralysed from the chest down. Broken and hopeless, Sam reached her outer limits of physical and mental suffering. But with courage, determination and a little help from an unlikely feathered friend, she made her way back from the edge, scarred but undefeated. Her message – never, ever give up.
