Lara Einzig is our fabulous LA-based style contributor, who openly shared her birth story with Gwyneth Paltrow in her job interview as Fashion Director at Goop. (Yep, she got the job.)
Now, this Aussie-raised, LA-based mother of three boys (including twins!) brings her incredible fashion industry background (Topshop UK and Goop to name a few) and experience with her own styling business, Aquadorium – to our site, sharing what she’s been up to this month. Hermés
A Hermés scarf for my wrist, neck, waist, bag, hair – such a chic and versatile piece is worthy of the price tag. And if you like to calculate your dollar-per-wear ratio as much as I do when considering investment pieces, therealreal.com has an extensive collection of excellent quality, pre-loved Hermés scarves with attainable price points. Oui s’il vous plait!
Dover Street Market LA
Trust Dover Street Market’s new LA outpost to decamp itself in a seemingly vapid wasteland of DTLA, surrounded in obtrusive construction work, a view of a power plant and diabolical parking. And yet, they come in droves. A contemporary art museum and retail concept mash up with Gary Card installations and phenomenal collections by Simone Rocha, Jacquemus, Elena Dawson, Noir Kei Ninomiya, Cecillie Bahnsen, Egg and Undercover. Don’t miss the café – I dined on fancy egg and anchovy toast and a delicious vegan, GF chocolate and walnut cake.
The LABBE
Fun Fact: face oil really does work and The LABBE’s Après Surf face oil is as clean and hydrating as they come. Made in Venice, California and formulated for surfers and their post-surf salty skin, it’s great as an all-purpose, plant-based hydration fix, whatever the weather.
Celestival
Los Angelenos really know how to self-care, and Celestival, an experiential wellbeing retreat in Topanga California is no exception. After a breakfast of homemade banana bread and adaptogen coffees, we hiked, practised ‘Fierce Embodiment’ yoga overlooking the Pacific and lay under a protruding, old oak tree for a chakra clearing, guided meditation. Lunch back at the ranch was an organic feast including plant-based cocktails while the afternoon session was a choice of ‘Dreaming Big’ and healing clay workshops. I literally floated home.
The First, Hulu
Binged on this beautifully produced, ponderous and offbeat sci-fi series set in 2030 about space travel to Mars and a proposed pre-apocalyptic race to colonize the planet. Sean Penn is utterly mesmerising as is rising star, Anna Jacoby-Heron. Waiting, praying for season 2.
Heidi Merrick Malibu pop up
One of my favorite Cali designers, Heidi Merrick, famous for her SoCal take on surfer girl to evening silhouettes (is there anything better), has launched a pop-up shop in Malibu Village. Along with her delicious Fall/Winter 2018, Resort 2019 and Swim collections, a series of limited-edition pieces like tees, sweats, windbreakers, slides, surf wax and towels are exclusive to the pop-up.
Jane Winchester
Moving on from delicate, fine gold jewellery to bolder, more statement-making pieces like this Jane Winchester ‘Protect’ coin medallion (wisdom, power, healing). A little bit Gucci-esque and works equally well layered or lonesome.
Dark Sky
Useless iPhone weather app, be gone! Dark Sky is loaded up with impressive features like accurate weather alerts to your exact location, notification when daytime precipitation likelihood reaches over 20% and lets you know when to apply sunscreen.
Becasa
Becasa’s line of classic, back-to-basics linen for the beach comber and intrepid traveller are my new go-to pieces. Endlessly versatile, effortlessly chic, I wear the black Paragon caftan from the beach to the school run and the Ivory Drift linen top over a black slip for evening.
Tea Tree Villa
A beautiful Sri Lankan coastal retreat for the family, meticulously designed and staffed for the ultimate, luxurious beach vacation. And the clincher – not one but two surf breaks right out front. You’ll find me here.
The Boiler Suit
One and done. Winter is coming in the Northern Hemisphere and I’m stocking up on boiler suits both oversized and cinched. Minimal, utilitarian dressing pleases me no end and I’m teaming mine with polo necks for colder days and strappy heels and statement earrings for cocktail hour.
Le Box Blanc
Le Box Blanc in downtown LA is more than a traditional boutique selling designer brands (Iro, Derek Lam, A.L.C, Joseph, Apiece Apart etc), it’s an experiential retail concierge bringing luxury fashion to your doorstep. A quick text exchange with their personal shoppers for that immediate, same-day fashion fix, new arrivals perfectly suited to your style sent straight to your inbox, hemlines altered, sartorial desires met.
Old new denim
Acid-wash denim is having a moment thanks to the SS’19 shows – Isabel Marant, (new!) Celiné, Miu Miu, Chloe, Stella McCartney, Proenza Schouler, played up the 80s maximalist, glam-rock theme in baggy jeans, oversized dresses, tailored blazers, washed-out jean jackets and disco-ready cutoffs.
