So thrilled to introduce our new Perth contributor, personal style consultant Kate Miles. She'll be sharing her monthly loves with us here and you can follow her over at @wearingittoday. Ready to meet her, mamas?
A bit about me – I am a very hands-on mum to my two-year-old boy Freddie. We live in Cottesloe directly opposite the beach and spend most of our time outdoors soaking up Western Australia’s amazing weather. I am also a Perth-based personal style consultant (you’ll find me at @wearingittoday or www.wearingittoday.net) and a fashion buyer for the designer boutique Adam Heath. My job is very flexible and I am able to work around Freddie and his two days he spends in daycare, which is perfect for me as I love being a mum. Essentially as a personal style consultant, I go to a client’s house and we go through their wardrobe and work out what needs to be sold, chucked or kept. I will restyle looks from existing items and work out what they need to fill in the gaps to make their wardrobe work harder. I will then either send them an email with various shopping links (who has the time to trawl online boutiques?) or I take them shopping. I then help them work their new pieces into their existing wardrobe if they want/need.
Watching
At the moment I am watching Season 2 of The Handmaid’s Tale. This small screen adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s disturbing dystopia is very intense and sadly relevant. It’s beautifully shot but definitely not for the faint-hearted. I can only manage one episode per night.
Eating
Odyssea Restaurant in City Beach, which is sophisticated without being intimidating. Overlooking the Indian Ocean this is a beautiful spot for a late lunch with friends. We drank French rose and ate natural oysters shucked to order, the zucchini and courgette, pan-fried brussel sprouts, slow-cooked beef cheeks, king prawns and the yummiest spiced cauliflower and pomegranate salad with mint, parsley and goats cheese.
Wearing
My Realisation ‘Naomi’ leopard silk slip skirt is on high rotation even during winter. Loving wearing it with everything from my Zara sock boots to my Vans sneakers. This is coming with me on my buying trip to Paris and I plan to wear it with a simple T-shirt and K.Jacques sandals during the day for running around to appointments and with a silk camisole and Castañer wedges for dinner at Lou Lou’s.
Beautifying
Assure Cosmetic Centre has been my go-to for the Revive facial for the past few years. They combine three non-surgical and non-invasive therapies in the one session – a chemical peel, a facial masque and a HEALITE II LED therapy session. This keeps my skin looking and feeling good, along with my ‘can’t live without’ Skinceuticals Hydrating B5 Gel serum and Medik8 Vitamin C antioxidant serum. If you only invest in one thing for your skin, make it Vitamin C – it’s the best anti-ageing product on the market. I’m happy to spend money on a good serum and then just get my moisturiser (Avene Eau Thermale Light Hydrating Cream) from the chemist.
Loving
I’ve been wearing Nili Lotan for a couple of years now and still love each and every piece as much if not more than when I bought them. The designers relaxed glam vibe is perfect for our Perth lifestyle. Her newest collection that’s just arrived at one of my favourite local boutiques Adam Heath, is just as special as her previous ones. I can’t get enough of the silk printed slip dresses and camisoles and may have gone home with the cutest little cami with roses on it. I’ll pair this tucked into vintage Levi’s, a leather jacket and heels for my next girls’ dinner.
Going
Every Sunday, I head down to the Fremantle Markets to do my weekly fruit and veg shop and have a quick lunch with my two-year-old son Freddie. There is a great selection of cheap and cheerful places to eat at one of the food stalls scattered throughout. The markets have the freshest selection of produce and so cheap! Less than $50 and I come home with a box filled with goodies that taste delicious and last the whole week in the fridge. Tip – do a weekly dinner plan so nothing goes to waste.
