“Long after one has forgotten what a woman wore, the memory of her perfume lingers.” Christian Dior said this and it’s still one of my favourite quotes. For me, fragrance is a fail-proof way to feel good. Just think about how lovely you feel when you wear perfume...
It makes me feel glamorous (even if I’m in jeans and a tee with two children hanging off my legs). Growing up, my mother always had a beautiful silver antique tray sitting on her bathroom cabinet filled with the sweetest smelling scents.

Now we all know it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday. Hoorah – it’s sleep-in time! I wish. The kids will still be kicking me in the face (at least they’re mostly excited, love-fuelled kicks) at 6am. But I have hinted to The Husband that this year, I’d love a new fragrance. And as for the simple pleasures in life, I’d love to go for a walk along the beach – one of my favourite things to do as a family (is there anything better than the smell of salty hair?).
I did some research and found the perfect fragrance: the updated version to J’adore (1999), J’adore Injoy, which according to the brand is a perfume that literally “smells” of joy. I might be pushing it, but I’d also love the J’adore Hair Mist, which illuminates the hair and enhances it with the fresh and floral trail of J’adore. Oh and while I’m at it, I’d love some Dior makeup (see my favourites below). Too much? Ok, just a coffee and croissant in bed please. So let’s talk about the scent I’m coveting. J’adore Injoy is made with a beautiful mood-boosting floral-fruity-salty accord. Alongside J’adore’s heavenly flowers – Jasmine Sambac, Neroli and many more – it contains Ylang Ylang from a small island off Madagascar. This is a beautiful and intoxicatingly potent tropical plant which means “flower of flowers” in Malaysian. Chosen by Dior’s clever perfumer-creator François Demachy, it was custom crafted and fashioned in Grasse to play a key role: embracing to perfection the audacious Fleur de Sel in J’adore Injoy’s composition. “The reason I wanted this specific Ylang Essence from the island of Nosy Be is that it possesses notes that are very close to the flower, as well as a salty note. It therefore resonates perfectly with the composition of J’adore Injoy, which itself is built on an incisive salty accord,” explains Demachy. “In Grasse, the conversation between the perfumer and the chemist is of the utmost importance. Their expertise is incomparable as it is descended from a long history combining skill and creativity, science and astuteness. This attitude and this knowledge are not found anywhere else. And that is why we can carry out such subtle olfactory work, as we have with Ylang Heart for J’adore Injoy. And that is also where the luxury of Dior perfumes comes from.” According to Dior (and when they speak, we listen), it’s the scent of joy, love for life and instant fun. I don’t know about you, but I could do with some instant fun. “With J’adore Injoy, I created an original fruity-salty accord to make white flowers shine. This Fleur de Sel is modern in style and literally smells of joy,” says Demachy.
