Anna Laub makes resort dressing easy. From sunglasses to swimsuits to shoes, she’s got you covered. Laub – an ex-style editor – founded her luxury resortwear line Prism back in 2009 after looking for covetable glasses and finding nothing in the market. She’s since expanded into swimwear, espadrilles, beach bags and cool ‘cover-up’ clothes. It’s been a big couple of years for London-based Laub who won Emerging Accessory Designer at the British Fashion Awards in December 2014. In May last year, her son Lucien was born. “I don’t actually know how I handle the sleep deprivation. I used to be the best sleeper and I couldn’t function at all without eight hours sleep. I currently haven’t had more than about five hours sleep in a row in about a year and I don’t know how, but I am fine,” she says. A year ago Laub opened her first store on Chiltern Street in London and Prism is also stocked in high-end retailers around the world from colette to Selfridges to Net-A-Porter. We caught up with the stylish designer to find out more about her new life as a mother… Anna’s little list of loves: Barbara Cassasola’s SS16 collection. Photographer Chloe Sells prints. Before launching Prism I worked as an editor for years…
At magazine and trend website WGSN. I knew the industry from the inside out and not just the clothes. I knew the stores, the buyers, the market, so when I went looking for optical glasses that I couldn’t find, I decided there must be a need for them and decided to make them myself.
My greatest career highlight was…
Winning Emerging Accessory Designer of the Year in December 2014 at The British Fashion Awards. Also when I opened my first store last April.
I love Lucien so much…
I want to spend time with him, but equally need to work and want to work. I’m sure it makes me all-the better when I do hang out with him. The constant mum guilt is hard.
“ Motherhood definitely gets your priorities straight and teaches you to not sweat the small stuff! ”
I take Lucien everywhere…
He is only six months old so I haven’t ever left him yet! Even when he’s older I think we will just take him everywhere with us. If you over think it, you would never do anything! He’s already been to New York, Italy and France. LA and Thailand are in his not so distant future.
I am back in my old wardrobe…
It’s filled with long dresses with leggings and espadrilles. As for bags, I just wear PRISM.
These days my life involves…
Lots of juggling, not much sleep and trying to be as efficient as I can possibly can be with my time and energy.
I use really clean simple beauty products…
Like Bioderma to cleanse and remove makeup and I moisturise and that’s it really. I love Sicily products too. For exercise I like yoga, lots of walking and now lifting a heavy baby!
The best part of motherhood is just hanging out with Lucien...
Seeing him change and grow and learn. His huge smiles are the best thing in the world.
